PlayDay, presented by Rite Aid, is only days away!! There are so many great things happening during our second annual day to Come Play in the Street on Sunday, September 20th. For example, have you ever played Cornhole on South Orange Avenue? No you say? Well, at PlayDay you've finally got your chance! We've got Cornhole, Four Square, hopscotch, hula hoops and jump ropes all in our Street Games area, which this year is sponsored by our friends at Matters Magazine.
And last week I mentioned our new Skate Park area, which is sponsored by EEA Industries. Now I've got details and a picture! We've very excited about our new Skate Park Area, which will be located on West South Orange Avenue, but there are some things you need to know. First, only kids 13 and older are allowed to participate (sorry younger kids but the rules are the rules). Second, skateboarders must bring their own boards and helmets, and they must wear their helmets at all times while using the park. Finally, all skateboarders must fill out a waiver and release form. To save time you can click on this link to print out the form and fill it out, sign it and bring it to us on PlayDay. And all minors under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian sign the form on their behalf.
Now the skate park is free, as are most of the events happening at PlayDay. But the Inflatable Zones (there are 3 of them, and they are sponsored by our good friends at Investors Bank and Natalie Farrell of Weichert Realtors) require a wristband, which can be purchased for $10 apiece for unlimited use, and those wristbands will be sold at our 3 information booths, which will be strategically located on Sloan Street, Spiotta Park and at the intersection of South Orange and Irvington Avenues. You and your kids will also need a wristband to access the Radio Controlled Test Track Area, sponsored by Sparkhouse, which will have the radio controlled test cars, naturally! This year, this area will also feature Minion Soccer. What is Minion Soccer you ask? You'll just have to buy a wristband at PlayDay to find out! All I can tell you right now is that I'm rooting for Minion Bob.
Speaking of rooting, who will you be rooting for in this year's Sloppy Joe Eating Contest, brought to you courtesy of Town Hall Deli? The contest will be up at the Rite Aid Stage (in front of Rite Aid) and will take place at 5:30. Maybe you'll root for our returning second place finisher, who just happens to be our new Village President Sheena Collum? Or maybe you'll be rooting for yourself because you're in the contest! That's right, we are still looking for additional contestants. I mean, we can't just hand Sheena her sloppy joes on a silver platter, can we? If you are interested in entering, please visit Town Hall Deli to fill out an application. Or just email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I'll make sure you get entered!
For your information, all of our public parking lots (except the one on West South Orange Avenue across from Reservoir) will be open on PlayDay, but obviously South Orange Avenue will be closed and there will be detours around town. For all the information about parking and getting around town that day, please visit this page.
As you know, PlayDay is not the only thing happening next weekend. Not by a long shot! The weekend of September 18th- 20th is Stay and Play Weekend, so everyone needs to stay around town for all the fun! Click here for details on Stay&Play.
